Yes, translating is a hard task. Especially if there are a lot of text. I'm participating in several open-source projects as a translator, so I decided to share some of my experience. 
- First of all - working in team is very beneficially for such sort of work.
- The second is this web-site -> http://open-tran.eu/ it has very large database of words/terms gathered from all localized Linux distributions and other free sources.
- The third is related to the second. If you like Firefox browser you may use the Open-tran addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4751. I find it very useful especially here in netvibes as we translate directly in browser. 
And the last but not least - enjoy it!

Just installed the firefox add-on, works fine, good amount of suggestions for each word, thanks Yulian!

Great resource, I will definitely use it. I use a computing terms dictionary but it isn't always up to date with new words, hopefully this can fill in many of the blanks. What other translation projects besides Netvibes are you taking part in?

I'm a translation geek .
Just a joke. It's like hobby for me, I would rather spend my spare time with translation of something useful than playing some kind of computer game
So, here they are:
- http://www.babelzilla.org/ - a site dedicated to provide localizations mainly for Mozilla apps. I'm registered translator for 15 Firefox extensions there.
- http://rssbandit.org/ - RSSBandit is standalone app, a RSS reader as you may guess.
- http://www.myschoolog.com - a web-2.0-based platform trying to make school life easier. (the site's owner/developer is 16 years old young man )
- http://laptop.org/ - this is the site of One Laptop Per Child initiative. Here I'm in translating the web site's content (so far Bulgarian language is not visible, I don't know why).
- http://www.essentialpim.com/ - it's shareware app.
- And Netvibes....
Jezz! That's a lot.

That's a decent list of applications and websites you have going there! I've been thinking about joining some more of these projects so it's interesting to see what others are doing. I will look through the software that I use and see if there is anything that needs translating. But if I start on something new it has to be open source because I have been having second thoughts about supporting proprietary software like this (Netvibes being the exception of course 
) I mean, for every piece of proprietary software I translate some professional translator goes unemployed... So it's really "salary dumping" - not good in the long run.

Above I mentioned an extension for Firefox (Open-Tran) that gives you access to Linux localization database. Now I want to introduce you another similar one, this time for Microsoft's terminology database. It's called "MsTrans" and is developed from two of most prominent members of BabelZilla translation community (www.babelzilla.org) - Goofy and Captain Caveman.
Here is the official description:
This is a plain and simple lightweight extension. It may be useful for software translators because it gives easy access to the huge terminology database and product glossaries of the Microsoft applications. This extension provides a kind of shortcut to the search box on Microsoft Language Portal page.

At the end a remark by me - bear in mind that the extension is dependable of Firefox's localization! It means that MsTrans will show you results only in the language which Firefox uses at the moment. For instance if your FF is in French - MsTrans will fetch you French words.

Even better than the other one, Microsoft's translations are the best! (Except for Live Messenger where they translated "angry smiley" as "angry happy facial expression")
Just remember, MsTrans doesn't work if you don't select the word before you click it.
